We learned another lesson recently. We went to visit a family with 8 kids. We went because we found out last week that the 4 year old boy doesn't have any shoes and the family doesn’t have much food.
Before we left for Mexico, the Connected Families staff had a farewell for us. It was a very uplifting and affirming time for all of us. At that farewell, 12 year old Gabrielle Schulenberg gave us some money to help some kids in Mexico. She gave exactly $13 (of her own money) because she said she prayed about it and that is what she felt the Lord was saying to give. Also, Gabrielle’s youngest sister, Julia, gave us some change. So we left the house that night asking the Lord how we should spend the money; $13.49.
After finding out shoes were needed for the 4 year old we went shopping and found just the right pair. The price was also just right as well... 150 pesos! If you divide 150 by 11.12 (which is the exchange rate) you come up with $13. 49!!!!! What an amazing time for our family to deliver shoes to Angel.
Gabrielle, thank you very much for listening to what the Lord told you to give us! Sometimes we don't know why the Lord tells us certain things, but we know that He has a purpose that we just can't see... but it is for good. The family thanked us over and over again. I told them that we were just there to give them the shoes and that a girl from the US had given us the money. We have video of our time together and some pics too. I've attached a couple pics.
The boy's name is Angel. You can pray for Angel when you remember. His Dad struggles with alcohol and they don’t have much as far as worldly possessions, but the kids are almost always smiling. Also, tonight their whole family came to church together! We saw Angel… and the shoes too!
